How to become an ict project manager in Australia
ICT Project Managers plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate quality accredited ICT projects. They are accountable for day-to-day operations of resourcing, scheduling, prioritisation and task coordination, and meeting project milestones, objectives and deliverables within agreed timeframes and budgets.
Pay and growth are for the wider ict managers group, which is as fine as the data goes. The all-jobs median is $1,852 a week. Jobs in the ict managers group are projected to grow 25.5% between May 2025 and May 2035, faster than the 13.3% projected for all jobs. Projections are indicative, not forecasts, and JSA says they don't yet reflect generative AI.
What the job involves
- Analyses information needs and specifies technology to meet those needs.
- Formulates and directs information and communication technology (ict) strategies, policies and plans.
- Directs the selection and installation of ict resources and the provision of user training.
- Directs ict operations and sets priorities between system developments, maintenance and operations.
- Oversees the security of ict systems.
How to get there
What it usually takes. A bachelor degree or higher. This is the skill level Jobs and Skills Australia gives the ict managers group, and some roles differ.
What people in the job have. Highest qualification held: 70% a degree or higher, 12% a diploma, 5% a Certificate III or IV.
